Famous Delawareans


 George Read (b.Maryland, 1733–98) and Thomas McKean (b.Pennsylvania, 1734–1817) were, with Rodney, signers for Delaware of the Declaration of Independence. 





Among scientists and engineers were :

-Oliver Evans (1755–1819), inventor of a high-pressure steam engine
-Edward Robinson Squibb (1819–1900), physician and pharmaceuticals manufacturer
-Wallace H. Carothers (b.Iowa, 1896–1937), developer of nylon at Du Pont
-Daniel Nathans (1928–99), who shared the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1978 for his research on molecular genetics. 
-Eleuthère I. du Pont (b.France, 1771–1834) founded the company that bears his name
-Pierre S. du Pont (1870–1954) was architect of its modern growth.

Henry Hemlich (February 3, 1920)
-Inventor of the heimlich maneuver. Saved countless men and women from choking

Teri Polo (June 1, 1969)
-Actress known for playing the rle of loving Pam Focker in the Meet The Parents films alongside Ben Stiller.

Sean Patrick Thomas (December 17, 1970)
-American actor, best known for his starrig role in the 2001 film, Save the Last Dance and the television drama The District.
